Yoga is coming home - a coming into wholeness. Sonoma Yoga Therapy looks at the whole person as a sum of elements, emotion, mind, and spirit, and how these parts interact and influence one another - both internally and externally.
Although we may try, we cannot force ourselves to feel better or stop our mind from thinking, but we can establish each moment as a choice. These small choices ripple and extend into our day. For example: a simple morning practice may add a backdrop of compassion, patience or grounding that helps one respond to challenges that arise.
In yoga the mind is referred to as the "monkey mind" constantly jumping from one stimuli to another, from past to future, from one thought to the next. Rarely still or calm the mind narrates and judges. As we learn to slow down, connect with the natural rhythm of our breath, and experience sensations with curiosity, space is created that allows patterns of reactivity, stress, anxiousness, and despair to fall away. The mind and nervous system literally re-wire due to neuroplasticity. When we feel safe and supported, we are able to shift our focus towards equilibrium.
Sonoma Yoga Therapy begins with YOU, wherever you are. Chronic stress, pain, trauma, recovering from an injury, caring for a loved one, cancer treatment, sleep deprivation, grief, fear, anxiety, sadness and addiction, have an impact on our outlook of life, our relationships, and where choices are made from.
